Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 fresh Italian sandwich rolls or Kaiser buns
  • 1 white onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 lb. rib eye steak, shaved or thinly sliced
  • 1/3 lb. thinly sliced white American cheese or Provolone OR 4 oz. melted cheese whiz

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200ºF. Warm the sandwich rolls or buns.1
  2. Heat a heavy skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  3. When hot, add the 3 tablespoons of oil, onions and peppers and cook, stirring frequently, until caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the garlic, salt and pepper and cook for another 30 seconds. Push off to the side of skillet or griddle.
  5. Add the meat to the hot pan and cook, stirring with the back of 2 metal spatulas, until almost no longer pink, about 2 minutes.
  6. Mix rib eye with the vegetables. Top with cheese and melt.
  7. Spoon the meat mixture onto warm buns and serve immediately.
