Hot Buttered Rum Cider

Ingredients
- 7 cups apple cider or juice
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 inches stick cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon whole allspice
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- Peel from 1 lemon, cut into strips
- 1-1 1/2 cups rum
- Butter
- Thin apple slices
Directions
- Combine apple cider and brown sugar in a large saucepan. For spice bag, tie cinnamon, allspice, cloves and lemon peel in a 6'' square of cheesecloth.
- Add spice bag to cider mixture.
- Bring cider mixture to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.
- Remove and discard spice bag. Stir in rum to taste.
- Pour into mugs topped with 1/2 teaspoon butter each and one apple slice.
