Barbecued Brisket

Prep Time: 10 minutes || Cook Time: 240 minutes || Total: 250 Minutes
Servings: 12 || Yields:

Ingredients

  • 1 can (12oz.) beer
  • 6 cups water or enough to cover meat
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 (5-6 lbs.) beef brisket
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except barbecue sauce in a Dutch oven large enough to hold brisket. Add the water and bring to a boil; reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 4 hours or until brisket is fork tender but do not slice.
  2. Allow to cool to lukewarm in cooking liquid. Transfer brisket to a plastic container and add 1 cup barbeque sauce. Cover and refrigerate up to 48 hours.
  3. Cook over medium hot coals or on a gas grill about 10 minutes per side, basting frequently with the remaining sauce.

Notes

You can use the BBQ sauce of your choice. If you don't want to grill, place brisket in an ovenproof glass dish, pour remaining barbeque sauce over meat, cover with foil and bake at 350º for about 30-45 minutes.
