Beef Tips

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. lean beef, such as sirloin or beef round
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking oil
  • Chopped onion and minced garlic (optional)
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 teaspoons beef bouillon or 4 beef bouillon cubes

Directions

  1. Mix flour, salt and pepper in a pie plate and coat beef. Save flour mixture.
  2. Pour enough oil to cover bottom of skillet and heat on medium. Add onion and garlic if desired. Brown beef in small batches. Add oil as necessary to continue browning.
  3. Transfer beef to crock pot and add 4 cups water and the beef bouillon.
  4. Cook on high about 4 hours or on low for about 6 hours or until beef is tender.
  5. For the last 10 minutes of cooking time, mix remaining flour mixture with enough cold water until it is the consistency of cake batter. Blend into beef tips slowly until the gravy is the thickness of your choice.
  6. Add a few drops of Kitchen Bouquet® or other browning sauce until it is the color density you prefer.
