The Falcons have had a dire need for a reliable sack artist for over a decade. It’s been a position the organization just hasn’t been able to get right, whether it be through the draft or free agency.
The Atlanta Falcons signed Kirk Cousins in free agency last month, so quarterback is no longer an issue as they prepare to use the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL Draft on Thursday night.

It is just about 24 hours from the 2024 NFL Draft, and the final mock drafts of the year are pouring in from outlets everywhere. We have discussed a plethora of mock drafts this offseason, too many to count, covering all of the potential avenues the Falcons could take tomorrow.
The Falcons are one of the more intriguing teams leading up to the draft. They own the 8th pick for the third consecutive season, but their needs don’t exactly line up with the value that could potentially be available when they are on the clock.
One situation to watch ahead of the NFL Draft is the 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk. The star wide receiver is coming off the best season of his career, catching 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns on his way to second-team All-Pro honors.
We are one sleep away from the NFL Draft, and there is a ton of speculation about what the Falcons are going to do with the 8th overall pick. Most draft pundits expect Atlanta to take a defender, with Dallas Turner and Laiatu Latu being the most popular picks.
The Falcons are going to add to the quarterback room this offseason. There’s no doubt about that, but where questions begin is how they acquire that signal caller.
The players have spoken and they’ve already released the winners for several categories, including the NBA’s most overrated player. But for one unnamed star, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins is his favorite for the most savage of reasons.
With the NFL Draft days away, the Falcons are gearing up for what should be a noteworthy Thursday night. Holding the 8th pick, Terry Fontenot can go in any number of directions, a couple of which he’s never done since taking over general manager duties in Atlanta.

It’s not just about eschewing positional needs, but also looking beyond the current state of the roster, the general manager suggests.
One of the most argued-over terms in the draft lexicon is best player available, a term that either means nothing or everything to you. For Terry Fontenot, it’s an ethos, but one that comes with qualifiers.
Taken at face value, best player available means best player regardless of position and roster need, and...
The Falcons are entering the draft with what many consider to be glaring needs at the cornerback and edge positions. A.J. Terrell will man one boundary position, and a combination of Mike Hughes, Clark Phillips, Dee Alford, Kevin King, and Antonio Hamilton Sr.
It remains to be seen how early the Washington product will hear his name called.
The NFL Draft is here, which means Falcons mocks are flooding in, and I want to highlight a few of my favorites. This one from PFF has Atlanta doing what many fans have been begging the club to do for years — defense, defense, and more defense.
There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and there’s more than one way to improve the Falcons pass rush. A defense’s pass rush is comprised of two main components — pressure and coverage.
With possibly four QBs expected to go early, quality players will fall and create trade possibilities.
Despite all of the rumors and reports, nobody, not even the Falcons, is quite sure who will be joining the organization during the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday.
