The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed infielder Jordy Mercer on the 10-day disabled list (retro to August 15) with a left calf strain. To take Mercer's place on the 25-man active roster, outfielder Jordan Luplow has been recalled from Indianapolis. The club has also selected the contract of infielder Kevin Newman from Indianapolis.
