Angels starter Tyler Skaggs held the Astros scoreless on four hits for seven innings to outduel Gerrit Cole and send Houston to a 2-0 loss in the series opener. Houston had two on in the ninth with no outs, but reliever Kenyan Middleton struck out two in a row before Yuli Gurriel was thrown out at third trying to advance on a ball in the dirt. He was originally called safe, but the call was overturned after a review.
