Buttercream Cake Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon clear vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon creme bouquet
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon meringue powder
  • 2 lbs. powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Mix shortening and butter until blended.
  2. Add milk and flavoring until blended. Add meringue and powdered sugar.
  3. With a hand mixer on lowest speed, blend ingredients until mixture comes together. Turn mixer to medium speed and mix 2-5 minutes until smooth and fluffy.

Notes

Cream Bouquet is a blend of vanilla extract and citrus flavors. You can omit this if you'd prefer. Wilton makes a clear vanilla.
