NBA Rumors: Latest on LeBron James, Kyrie Irving Trade and More

When the Kevin Durant-led Golden State Warriors took down the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals, few thought the ensuring arms race would include everyone but LeBron James and his superteam.

Hindsight might end up telling the story as the downfall of the Cavaliers, the defeat a self-destruct of epic proportions rather than the team rallying and making a big splash to serve a counter punch to the Warriors.

Before last week, at worst it looked like the Cavaliers would remain standing...

Adam Stern and John Ourand of SportsBusiness Daily were the first to report the news and added that Junior's deal will begin in January.

Since NBC only carries the second half of the NASCAR...

Jordan Spieth's wild British Open win prompts comparisons to the all-time greats again

With one of the greatest-ever closes to a major championship, Jordan Spieth captures the third leg of a career slam faster than Tiger Woods.

Where does Jordan Spieth want our expectations to go now?

"It seems a bit unfair at 22 to be expecting something like that all the time," he said at last year's Open in a memorably frosty press conference.

After it became academic that his chances of winning at Troon had been blown away in the wind, a frustrated Spieth met the media and had clearly had...

The Red Sox countered the 3B trade market by calling up Rafael Devers

Monday’s Say Hey, Baseball looks at the arrival of a top prospect, Clayton Kershaw’s injury, and a fun Giancarlo Stanton rumor.

How desperate are the Red Sox for a third baseman? Not desperate enough to try Pablo Sandoval there again, but catcher Christian Vazquez has twice been placed at third late in games, and overall, Boston third basemen have hit .228/.280/.320. The Sox were linked to a bunch of non-third basemen on the trade market — Asdrubal Cabrera, Ian Kinsler, utility man...

Dale Earnhardt Jr. to join NBC Sports as NASCAR analyst in 2018

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s post-retirement plans will include a role with NBC Sports, where he’ll serve as an analyst for the network’s NASCAR coverage beginning next season.

NBC has not determined if Earnhardt, who signed a multiyear contract, will join Rick Allen (play-by-play), Jeff Burton, and Steve Letarte (analysts) in the broadcast booth where they will call NBC’s 20-race portion of the Monster Energy Cup Series. But Earnhardt will have a significant presence regardless of his role,...

What Kyrie Irving’s trade request says about LeBron

We don’t know how hard it is to live in the shadow of a legend.

In this Age of Superteams, Kyrie Irving’s decision to walk away from LeBron James and the Cavaliers is out of tune with the rest of the NBA. Everyone else is mad when they don’t have a superstar teammate, and then they wind up working the levers to land one or to land where one or two are already in place.

Irving already has the best player in the world in LeBron and a very good power forward in Kevin Love. Together,...

Derrick Rose, Cavaliers will meet Monday to discuss 1-year minimum deal, per report

Rose could be the Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving replacement, but don’t expect him to be Kyrie.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Derrick Rose are meeting on Monday to negotiate a deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The team sides have mutual interest in Rose signing a one-year minimum deal worth $2.1 million, but there has been no decision yet.

Rose’s meeting comes in the wake of the Kyrie Irving trade request, after the 25-year-old point guard met with the Cavaliers to tell them that...

Yu Darvish Must Be Traded Before He Bolts for $100 Million FA Deal

In the space of six days last week, the Pittsburgh Pirates made up six games in the National League Central standings. The Texas Rangers have 10 weeks to make up a 2.5-game deficit in the American League wild-card race.

Put it that way, and it sounds like there's no reason for the Rangers to give up on this season.

But try thinking of it this way: The Rangers haven't been more than a game over .500 since Memorial Day, and even after a weekend sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, they're still two...

MLB Rumors: Analyzing Latest 2017 Trade Chatter

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and while a number of key trades have already taken place, more moves are on the horizon.

The Chicago Cubs made a trade with their cross-town rival Chicago White Sox to upgrade their pitching staff by adding Jose Quintana. That trade was made at the All-Star break, and the Cubs have played much better since acquiring the left-handed starter.

The White Sox, in the middle of a rebuilding plan, also completed a trade with the New...

Everything You Need to Know About the 2018 NBA Free-Agent Class

Imagine thinking it's too early to discuss 2018 NBA free agency.

Plenty of 2017 dominoes still need to fall (howdy, Nerlens Noel), but next year's available names are already beckoning—and they want us to know they wish it were 2016.

The era of endless cap space, universally good contracts and infinite possibilities is over. Reality is beginning to settle in. The cap seems to have leveled off. Over-the-top deals are no longer the standard. Fewer teams will have money to burn next July, and...
