Beer Battered Fried Mushrooms

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups (12oz.) beer
  • 36-48 medium to large mushrooms

Directions

  1. Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl. Add beer and whisk until smooth. Cover and chill 30 minutes. Whisk again and refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Wash and trim fresh mushrooms.
  3. Heat oil for deep frying to 375º.
  4. Holding the stem of the mushroom, dip into batter covering mushroom cap completely. Fry in batches until golden brown. Allow oil to return to 375º between batches.
  5. Drain thoroughly on paper towels.
