Wilton buttercream Icing

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening such as Crisco
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Wilton Icing white for purer colors

Directions

  1. Cream butter and shortening with electric mixer. Add vanilla.
  2. Add sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at high speed until light and fluffy. Keep covered and refrigerate when not in use. Rewhip before using.

Notes

For chocolate Buttercream, add 3/4 cup unsweetened chocolate or 3 oz. melted unsweetened chocolate squares plus 2 tablespoons of milk
