A Trade Back you say?
Welcome to Sunday-Funday Mock Draft edition!
What better is there to do on a mild, yet dreary Sunday in mid April, that a mock draft?
In this latest edition, I used the NFL Mock Draft Database simulator(which I now view as the most realistic...and YES, I’ve used them ALL). You can see the results here.
My goal was to maximize value while adding quality value vs. need prospects for the Washington Football Team.
I went into this draft...

It’s almost time for the real thing! Until then, we get the next best thing.
Each year, just before the actual draft, enterprising individuals from various SBNation blogs take it upon themselves to organize a site-wide full mock draft, with (ideally) writers/posters from each of the team blogs picking on behalf of their team. This year, I will be picking on behalf of the Washington Football Team and tracking progress here. Thanks to the abomination that is...

While Washington should be on the radar for a quarterback trade-up, the team sticking at No. 19 and drafting a tackle or trading down and selecting one soon after appears to be firmly in play.
Moss spent the 2020 season on Washington’s IR list.
Bye Thad!
Washington officially released 5 players today. Their roster was at 84 players, and their is a 90-man limit for the offseason. The NFL draft is 20 days away and Washington currently has 8 picks this year, and will likely be adding more undrafted players to the team. Today's move is another bottom of the roster move that will continue up to and after the draft.
The name that will get the most attention on this list is TE Thaddeus Moss, the son of NFL legend Randy Moss. He played on...
Tight end Thaddeus Moss arrived in Washington hoping to create his own legacy separate from his Hall of Fame father Randy. But Moss will have to do that elsewhere as Washington released him Friday.
The Washington Football Team waived five players Friday, including tight end Thaddeus Moss. Moss is the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss. Washington also waived defensive tackle Caleb Brantley, wide receiver Emmanuel Hall and running backs Michael Warren and Javon Leake.
Moss signed with Washington ahead of the 2020 campaign after going undrafted out of LSU. He spent the season on injured reserve after getting hurt in training camp.

The more Washington waits, the higher the risk Lance is gone. If this is a quarterback the front office truly believes in, it likely needs to acquire a top-eight pick by draft day.

Balancing potential reward against opportunity cost
This article takes its inspiration from a recent discussion in the comments section of Hogs Haven. We were discussing the merits of selecting a QB in the first round versus later in the draft, when one frequent commenter wrote:
“By and large, mid-round QB picks are a terrible investment, especially when viewed against the steep opportunity cost of talented starters on cheap contracts...
Coach Ron Rivera wants a stout offensive line, and a deep draft class of tackles along with a possible trade or a veteran pick-up could fill the need.

Ron Rivera hasn’t ruled out selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft despite the Washington Football Team having three under contract for the 2021 season.
