Kiper opts for play-making wide receiver instead of quarterback J.J. McCarthy
Quarterbacks go 1-2-3 and wide receivers 4-5-6 in the latest mock draft from ESPN’s Mel Kiper. The New York Giants, with the sixth overall pick, land Washington’s Rome Odunze, giving them a much-needed potentially game-changing receiver.
Kiper said he went with Odunze instead of quarterback J.J. McCarthy because he felt No. 6 was “too high” for the Michigan...
New York Giants news for Tuesday
Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Does the ‘very Buffalo-ish’ approach work? The approach includes de-valuing positions like running back and safety; spend your resources on premium positions; and be quarterback-centric on offense, and do what you have to do to get the guy you want.
No, the Giants have not — yet — swung a Josh Allen-style trade. They did, though, prioritize paying quarterback Daniel Jones over running back Saquon...
Mel Kiper makes new predictions for Round 1 of April's NFL draft, including new landing spots for multiple quarterbacks.
The Giants‘ free agency has been active, notably trying to patch up some of their offensive line holes. They added Jon Runyan and Jermaine Eluemunor to the trenches, both of whom should win starting jobs in 2024.
The New York Giants have no intentions of cutting bait with edge rusher Azeez Ojulari this offseason. The Giants’ acquisition of Brian Burns adds a two-time Pro Bowler to the roster.

Can Elliss build off his breakout 2023 season?
It’s been said quite a lot, but it bears repeating: the 2024 NFL draft looks to be an deep and talented one at the most important positions on the field. And while this year’s EDGE class might not be quite as highly regarded as the tackle or wide receiver classes, this is still a good group of pass rushers.
Utah edge defender Jonah Elliss was in the midst of a breakout 2023 season...

Cosell is bullish on Adonai Mitchell
Esteemed NFL analyst Greg Cosell dropped by the Ross Tucker Football Podcast recently to assess his view of the top five wide receivers in the 2024 NFL Draft. Since that is a topic New York Giants fans are invested in leading up to the draft, I thought I would summarize Cosell’s take on the top 5.
The full episode is embedded at the bottom of the post.

The New York Giants have yet to upgrade at wide receiver this offseason despite the position being one of their biggest needs to address. While the Giants will likely wait until the draft to make any splash moves at wide receiver, they could still add some talent to the position group through the free agency market.
There is a strong possibility the New York Giants will elect to take a receiver high in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. Players like Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze certainly stand out as potential targets for the Giants with a 6th overall pick.
Russell Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, but before he joined the Steelers, he took a meeting with the New York Giants. Wilson had expressed interest in playing for the Giants in the past, so while New York seemed like a darkhorse, it made sense for Wilson to at least consider the Big Apple.

The Giants are largely following the model Joe Schoen learned with the Bills
Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer recently told the ‘Rich Eisen Show’ that the New York Giants under the direction of GM Joe Schoen are taking a “very Buffalo-ish” approach to their build.
This is absolutely true, and not a surprise since Schoen and coach Brian Daboll had front row seats to GM Brandon Beane’s build in...

Joe Schoen’s work gets good marks
How did the New York Giants do in the first week of NFL free agency? Here are how analysts across the Internet graded GM Joe Schoen’s work.
Pro Football Focus gave the Giants a B, which was assigned prior to the depth signings of offensive linemen Austin Schlottman and Aaron Stinnie, as well as tight ends Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz. The grade includes the trade for edge defender B PFF wrote:

New York Giants headlines for Monday
Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Michael Strahan gets one up on Jon Runyan Sr.Former Giants great Michael Strahan and Jon Runyan Sr., an offensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, had many memorable confrontations. The two combatants eventually became friends, with Runyan attending Strahan’s Hall of Fame enshrinement.
With Runyan’s son, Jon Jr., now a Giant, Strahan is savoring the moment.
“One of my favorite things is knowing that Jon Runyan...

What can Polk be at the next level?
The 2024 NFL draft is just full of receivers to fit pretty much every scheme and team. There are receivers who can be true “number one” options for an offense without one, and there will also be receivers drafted who can fill more niche roles.
There are also receivers like Washington’s Ja’Lynn Polk who might not be dominant pass catchers, but should be the kind of dependable option who keep good offenses...
The New York Giants need to add playmaking talent to their offense which ranked near the bottom of the NFL last season. With the No. 6 pick in the draft, they will have an opportunity to land an elite wide receiver prospect.

Gentlemen, start your (trade-up) engines
As Chris Pflum reported, the landscape for the New York Giants acquiring one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft just got more complicated, with the Minnesota Vikings acquiring an additional first-round pick and the Los Angeles Chargers trading wide receiver Keenan Allen after releasing his teammate Mike Williams the previous day.
Are the Giants or the Vikings in the more advantageous position to...
The 2022 season for the New York Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones presented a glimmer of long-term hope. The free agency class for quarterbacks was thin, and their record put the Giants well out of position to land a young passer in the draft.
The Bucs are experiencing some useful roster turnover with the signing of offensive linemen Ben Bredeson and Sua Opeta. Former starting center Ryan Jensen has officially announced his retirement.
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen stated several weeks ago that the team would be looking to add a veteran quarterback in free agency. This past week, they executed that strategy, securing Drew Lock on a one-year deal with $5 million guaranteed.
