Weekend Open Thread

Good Morning!

I hope you’re having a great weekend while I spend mine at work. I know most of you don’t need to hear this, but I’m going to say it one last time for all the people in the back: I’m tired of the politics in the daily threads. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t have to hide or delete comments because of politics, that stops immediately. I’m going to continue moderating the...

No fans will be allowed at Vikings Training Camp this year

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Or any other training camp, but we don’t care about those

With everything that’s been happening with the COVID-19 epidemic in recent months, the Minnesota Vikings have made an announcement that doesn’t really come as a surprise.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 @verizon Vikings Training Camp will be held without fans.

Recently announced joint NFL/NFLPA training camp protocols prohibit fans from attending practices at all club...

Merry Friday, everyone!

We’ve made it to the one day of the workweek that is better than Monday. Anyone have any plans for the weekend? This will probably come as a shock to you, but I plan to fish.

NFL’s best stadium named NFL’s best stadium

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Because duh.

In a recent poll done by The Athletic of their NFL writers, the best stadium in the NFL was named the best stadium in the NFL, which is not surprising given that it’s the best stadium in the NFL.

U.S. Bank Stadium, the home of your Minnesota Vikings, garnered the top spot in the poll, narrowly edging out a group of stadiums that are not the best in the NFL.

Seriously, the top five looked like this:

NFL vs. COVID-19: A Preview

Since the draft, there really hasn’t been much going on in terms of Vikings player news, development, or any news of position battles, scheme changes or adjustments, or really anything of substance to gain insight into how things may play out as the Vikings prepare for the upcoming season.

Of course the reason for the lack of news is all the coronavirus precautions, which have kept players and coaches at home, and prevented the normal schedule of off-season training events, including OTAs...

Merry Thorsday, everyone!

It’s great to be back! Did I miss anything? I didn’t think so. The much-needed break was wonderful, I always enjoy our time over in Montana, and this time was no different. Several days with no phone service, lots of fishing, beautiful mountain views, fishing, and....ummm.....fishing. Did I mention fishing?

The ride home was......adventurous. We drove through...

Wednesday Open Thread

Good Morning, It’s Hump Day!

It’s midweek for most of you or as we call it at my house “the day before I have to go back to the bad place.” We’re going with more of the iconic composer Ennio Morricone today after I did some research on his career. I was surprised how many of his songs I recognized from movies. We’re inching closer to the start of training camp follow by no preseason games and the the onset of the regular season.......maybe. The time the Vikings signed a quarterback to a ten-year contract

And, at the time, the money was considered astronomical

For the majority of the Minnesota Vikings’ existence, the team has been looking for a long-term solution at the quarterback position. In fact, since the advent of the 16-game schedule back in 1978, the Vikings have never had a quarterback start all 16 games in back-to-back seasons.

The Vikings have taken a few swings at the idea of a “franchise quarterback” over the past few years, but...

This Date In Transactions History: Vikings Extend Harrison Smith

In 2016, Vikings GM Rick Spielman praised Harrison Smith as “better safeties” in the NFL. Actually, Smith proved himself to be one of the best in the league at his position but, as Spielman joked, assigning him that label would have driven up the price.

PFF: Vikings’ offensive line still in bottom half of NFL

But there’s some hope!

It seems that the offensive line has been a point of contention for the Minnesota Vikings for about a decade now. It seems that way because. . .well, it really has been. Even when the Vikings have had good seasons in recent years, the offensive line has had its struggles and has generally been a big part of the team coming undone in the postseason.

Despite a bit more attention being paid to the offensive line over the past few...

Will Case Keenum ever be a starting quarterback in the NFL again?

The former Minnesota Vikings passer has seen his recent play trend in the wrong direction. Thanks to being the guy who threw the pass during the “Minneapolis Miracle”, Case Keenum will always be remembered in a positive light for the time he spent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017.
