Weekend Open Thread

Good Morning!

I hope you have a great start to your three or four day weekend! It’s time to catch up on the smoker, drink beer and fire up that grill. Today we’re going to have some deer from last year as burgers, and some sausage. For Sunday I got my youngest son to smoke a pork butt on the smoker, yes I can say butt up here. Speaking of which, your Game of Thrones fanpost thread will post as usual on Monday.....wait, what it’s over? Oh, well then never mind....

Hercules Mata’afa is, apparently, in the mix at defensive tackle

Or, at least, we can infer that from a tweet

It was a little less than a year ago that Hercules Mata’afa tore his ACL during Organized Team Activities with the Minnesota Vikings. He was on track to become one of the more intriguing stories of the preseason for the purple, largely because nobody knew where, exactly, the team was going to play him. He started off OTAs working with the linebackers, but at the time of his injury had been shifted to work with the defensive line.

Now, if we can...

Let’s help David Morgan fulfill his modeling dreams

Yeah. . .it’s the offseason

A lot of NFL players have hobbies or other pursuits that we generally don’t know a whole lot about. Today, I’ve learned about one such member of the Minnesota Vikings that has such a pursuit, and we can actually give him a hand with this.

Tight end David Morgan is one of the finalists in a “Man Model” contest for a clothing line called Chubbies. The contest apparently started out with around 12,000 entries, and Morgan has made his way into the Top 20....

Dalvin Cook: He Can Shine - But Can He Stay On The Field?

He’s had his share of injury problems in his first two seasons

In the second in an occasional series on Vikings key veterans, I take a look at running back Dalvin Cook.

It’s been two seasons now since Dalvin Cook was drafted to be the Vikings new feature back. So far, he’s done pretty well with the carries he’s had, but the problem has been that he’s not had enough of them to really make much of a difference.

Dynamic, Deadly... But Can He Be Durable?

Dalvin Cook has averaged 4.7...

It’s Friday, so here’s Everson Griffen and Dalvin Cook cracking eggs on Kirk Cousins’ head

For a good cause, mind you

Social media is weird. I don’t understand why 90% of the stuff that trends on social media trends on social media, but that might owe largely to the fact that I’m old and what not. However, the newest trend is one that happens to be for a good cause, and Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Kirk Cousins has gotten involved in it.

It’s called the “Crack Cancer” challenge, and its purpose is to raise awareness of and money for the fight against pediatric...

Kyle Rudolph working on new contract with Vikings

Tight end Kyle Rudolph confirmed that he’s attempting to negotiate a new deal withe Vikings, but also said he’s been told there are “plenty of other teams” that would have interest in acquiring him, as Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com writes. Rudolph, who is scheduled to earn $7.275M in the final year of his contract, has already stated he won’t accept a pay cut. Minnesota has the second-least cap space in the NFL, and also drafted tight end Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of...

Minnesota Vikings OTAs: Is it possible Mike Hughes won’t be ready for Week 1?

At least one well-placed source is raising that possibility

A promising rookie season for Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Mike Hughes was cut short in the team’s Week 6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals by a torn ACL. Now, just a few weeks after we got word that Hughes was, apparently, ahead of schedule in his rehab, a well-placed Vikings’ source is raising the spectre that Hughes might not be ready for the 2019 regular season opener.

Paul Allen on KFAN said he would bet on #Vikings...

Good Morning!

I hope you’re having a great work week, from some of the comments it’s going really quiet here on Friday, this weekend and Monday as most of you are gearing up for a 3 or 4 day weekend. Vikings Offensive Line: Garrett Bradbury starts OTAs at center

With Pat Elflein at left guard

Things are underway at the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center in Eagan, with the Minnesota Vikings going through their Organized Team Activities. As it has been for. . .well, forever, it seems. . .the offensive line is going to be a focal point from now until the season starts, and it appears that we’ve gotten an answer to one of the big questions early on.

As you can see in the picture above, and as has been reported by numerous sources on social...

Stefon Diggs missed a couple days of OTAs, and seriously who cares?

They’re voluntary, after all

With OTAs getting underway this week in Eagan, the Minnesota Vikings currently have 89 players on the 90-man roster in attendance for the voluntary workouts.

The one absence from the voluntary workouts? Wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who is not at the workouts because. . .well, nobody knows why, and it doesn’t matter why. They’re voluntary workouts, after all.

One guy that’s not worried about Diggs not being at the voluntary workouts? His coach.

Rick Spielman still high on the list in Rotoworld GM rankings

Not quite as high as last year, but still up there

Every year, the folks from Rotoworld put together their rankings of the General Managers across the National Football League, and this year’s list is now available. In what is likely going to come as a bit of a surprise to at least some portions of the fan base, Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman is still pretty highly regarded when it comes to these rankings.

Spielman comes in at #7 in this year’s rankings, which is actually one spot...

Patriots have talked to Vikings about Kyle Rudolph, per report

The Minnesota Vikings might move on from veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph ahead of the 2019 season after drafting Irv Smith in the 2019 NFL Draft. A two-time Pro Bowler, there would be a nice amount of interest in Rudolph’s services. In what can’t be considered too much of a surprise, that includes the New England Patriots. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Pats have talked to Minnesota about Rudolph. New England has added veterans Benjamin Watson, Austin...

More on Jayron Kearse possibly changing positions

Again, more opportunities for him to get on the field

Not long after the 2019 NFL Draft, there was word circulating that the Minnesota Vikings were considering moving safety Jayron Kearse to the weakside linebacker position in an effort to get him on the field more often. Now, with a new round of OTAs starting in Eagan on Tuesday, the Vikings could be looking at a way to get Kearse on the field even more frequently.

Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that Kearse is...
