Raiders-Washington injury report: Jordan Reed returns to practice, Sean Smith downgraded

There was one change to Raiders’ injury report today. Sean Smith, who had practiced full on Wednesday was downgraded to limited with a neck injury Thursday. That neck injury kept him out of last week’s game against the Jets. It appears to be acting up again.

Others limited for the Raiders include Gareon Conley (shin), Amari Cooper (knee), Jared Cook (shoulder), and DeAndre Washington (hamstring).

Returning to practice for Washington is tight end Jordan Reed who has a rib/sternum injury....

Thursday Night Football Open Thread: Rams vs. 49ers

Will anyone show up to this game?

Tonight on the NFL Network at 5:15 PM, the NFL provides us with yet another Thursday night game in line with its tradition of putting the worst possible matchups on Thursdays. The big question here isn't if the game will be exciting, but whether the uniforms will burn our retinas.

The Rams' poor attendance can be excused by the fact they were stuffed into the Los Angeles Coliseum, a massive structure that was built in 1853 as one of the conditions of the...

Oakland Raiders flex offensive skills in Week 2 win

In Oakland, California on Sunday, Sept. 17, the Oakland Raiders pulled off a convincing victory over the New York Jets.  The score of this game was 45-20. This is the second straight win coming from the Raiders that consisted of a double digit lead.  The offense seemed unstoppable in this Week 2 win. I also wanted to make a note involving some history here.   This is the first time the Raiders have started their season 2-0 in the past 15 seasons. The Raiders are off to a strong start. To...

Raiders looking for 'family friendly' environment in Las Vegas

The words “family-friendly” and Las Vegas, otherwise known as Sin City, are not typically used within the same sentence. Though, that is not stopping the Oakland Raiders’ management from wanting a family-oriented new stadium in Las Vegas. LV Stadium Company COO Don Webb had this to share on Thursday about plans for the new stadium. “But we want the stadium to be not only a safe environment, but we want it to be perceived as a family-friendly environment,” Webb said, per Richard N....

NFL week 3 game picks predictions, week 2 results

Week three is upon us and the staff has made their picks. Week 2 was a solid week for our predictions. Myself and Chris led the pack with 12-4 marks and everyone had winning records. There were seven unanimous picks and we nailed all seven, including the Raiders over the Jets.

This week we have nine* unanimous picks, including the Raiders winning Sunday night in Washington. Other across the board picks include the Rams tonight, Falcons, Broncos, Patriots, Dolphins, Steelers, Packers, Chiefs,...

Vegas paper labels Oakland Raiders fans in Black Hole as ‘scary’, ‘intimidating’ and not ‘family friendly’

Everything about the Raiders will be better in Las Vegas, apparently. Even the FANS will be better. So says Rick Velotta of the Las Vegas Review Journal.

According to Velotta Oakland Raiders fans in the Black Hole would be “shocked” to learn that those in charge of the Las Vegas stadium want a family friendly atmosphere (Shocked I tell you!). I guess because you can’t bring your family to the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum for a game. At least according to someone who has probably...

Khalil Mack’s offsides penalty vs Jets a good thing?

It’s so Khalil Mack to show us something positive even in a penalty.

Perhaps many fans were disappointed when Khalil Mack jumped offsides and gave up an easy 5 yards to the Jets, but I was actually quite excited about that. What I saw was a guy who was trying to anticipate and was timing up the offensive snap count. On the radio broadcast, Lincoln Kennedy said that Mack was timing up the Jets' center's head bob to try to get a great jump. You can see it very clearly on the play here...

Raiders unleash Cordarrelle Patterson to add new wrinkle to already dynamic offensive attack

In the week 1 victory over the Titans, Offensive Coordinator Todd Downing (aka Coach TD) used many ZERO RB personnel groups, meaning none of Marshawn Lynch, Jalen Richard, or DeAndre Washington were in the game. These were generally 4 wide receivers and hybrid TE Jared Cook or 3 wides, Cook, and TE Lee Smith.

On many of those groups, the formation had Cordarrelle Patterson lined up in the backfield. But against the Titans, Cordarrelle Patterson only had one carry and that was on and end...

What they got wrong about the Raiders

Most predictions I saw about the Raiders this season were positive. There were high expectations in the 2016 offseason and the Raiders lived up to the hype, so most expected that to continue. However, there was one big question out there — would Marshawn Lynch return to form?

Some reserved judgment on that and some expected him to be all he ever was at age 31. Then there were those who were convinced he was washed up. Or rather they had convinced themselves of that. Namely the Raiders...

Raiders to face off with former QB Pryor

Terrelle Pryor has remade himself into a receiver and will take on the Raiders’ secondary on Sunday night.

Young Raider fans may not remember this, but there was once a time when former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was considered the Raiders’ quarterback of the future. Pryor was selected by Oakland in the supplemental draft of 2011, and was the last draft pick ever made by Al Davis before his death.

Pryor’s time with Oakland ran its course and the Raiders cut him loose. He...

Raiders defense showing new dimension in dialing up safety blitzes

Last year the defensive secondary of Sean Smith, David Amerson, Reggie Nelson, and Karl Joseph (as well as DJ Hayden and TJ Carrie and some other fill-ins) had a very up-and-down year. They made some key plays but many of those were overshadowed with some egregiously poor plays, many of those stemming from lack of communication. It wasn't necessarily that they were PHYSICALLY bad, but that one or more were just out of position and not quite sure where his help would be or was supposed to be....

Goro’s Quick Hits for Raiders week 2 win over Jets

In 2016 after 2 weeks, the team was 1-1 with a heart-stopping fantastic finish over New Orleans and the back-and-forth battle with eventual Superbowl Runner-ups Atlanta Falcons. It was a mixed feeling, because the defense was maddeningly porous over the first two weeks with instances of difficulty simply lining up and multiple 12 man ont he field penalties. And while the offense was striking quick and hard, they too had these odd, frustrating moments of mediocrity.

Where were we as a...

Raiders at Washington week 3 injury report: Sean Smith full go, top tight ends banged up for both teams

The first injury report is out for the Raiders and Washington. For the Raiders, they have a few players who were limited in Wednesday’s practice.

For the Raiders, those who are limited are Gareon Conley (shin), Jared Cook (shoulder), Amari Cooper (knee), and DeAndre Washington (hamstring).

After missing last Sunday’s game against the Jets with a neck injury, Sean Smith practiced full along with Keith McGill (foor) and Jamize Olawale (quad) who also missed Sunday’s game.
