Pluto: Browns will use Ryan Grigson like a super scout

A source tells Terry Pluto of the Plain Dealer that the Cleveland Browns will be using Ryan Grigson as a “super scout” in his new title of senior personnel executive:

The Browns plan to use Grigson almost like a super scout. He will look at pro and college players. He will even visit some colleges to research prospects. He spent his first 14 years in the NFL as a scout, and the Browns believe that is his strength.

This seems to fit the narrative we’ve heard and tried to paint so far...

Hank Aaron explains how he is a fan of the Browns

Earlier this week, we encouraged fans to write about why they are fans of the Cleveland Browns. Coincidentally, one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Hank Aaron told cleveland.com today one of the reasons he was a Browns fan, and it came about due to his rooting interest in TE Ozzie Newsome:

“[Newsome] went to the University of Alabama. I kind of followed his career when the ballclub drafted him. Then, I followed him all through his playing career. He was probably one of the...

Former NFL head coach: Colin Kaepernick would be a good fit for the Browns

Eric Mangini spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers. All three years included Colin Kaepernick acting as the team’s starting quarterback. Needless to say, Mangini knows a little bit about what the free agent can bring to the table. Also important to note here, Mangini spent two years as the Cleveland Browns’ head coach. Despite his less-than-stellar 10-22 mark during that span, he also knows a little bit about what is going on with the Browns. In talking...

Saturday Dawg Chow: Browns news (5/27/17)

Cleveland Browns:

"DeShone Kizer is glued to Hue Jackson to fast-track chances of winning Browns QB job" (Plain Dealer) - "Browns rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer knows he can't stray out of earshot from the quarterback whisperer. Wherever Kizer goes on the practice field, coach Hue Jackson follows." "Unfortunately for Brock Osweiler the proof is in the film" (WFNY) - "I would say “HOT TAKE ALERT,” except I don’t particularly think this take is all that hot. The Browns should just go...

PFF infographic shows just how much Browns’ rookies played in 2016

We’ve known that the Cleveland Browns’ rookie class in 2016 led the NFL in snaps, but Pro Football Focus did a wonderful job of putting it into perspective compared to the other 31 teams:

The Browns led all teams with 5,521 snaps, and the Vikings were dead last with 347 snaps. The team closest to the Browns was the Colts, but they were still a staggering 1,128 snaps away from Cleveland.

Here is the full breakdown of rookie snaps for Cleveland in 2016, not including special teams:

Former 49ers assistant supports Colin Kaepernick

Former San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Eric Mangini backed Colin Kaepernick in some recent comments about the controversial quarterback.Mangini, known for his stints as a New York Jets and Cleveland Browns head coach, spent three seasons with the 49ers from 2013-2015. Though he was not around the team last year when Kaepernick drew attention for his national anthem protest, Mangini had nothing but positive things to say about the quarterback.“I haven’t personally talked to anybody...

NFL still won’t allow dunks over the goalpost on touchdowns

When I recapped some of the rule changes at the NFL spring meeting, one of the big changes was that touchdown celebrations will be more relaxed moving forward. One of the things I wondered, though, was whether players would be allowed to “dunk” the ball over the goalpost? Even when the league initially went to stricter rules, dunking over the goalpost was allowed...until the actual goalpost got bent one day.

I contacted Brian McCarthy, who works PR for the NFL, asking whether it would be...

Cleveland Browns: The QB position remains the team’s biggest question

The Cleveland Browns enter 2017 with another quarterback competition, which has become a common theme for the organization since 1999. Cleveland Browns fans are well-aware that the quarterback position is still not solidified. The front office knows this as well, but fans are hoping 2017 is the final year in which there is yet another […] Cleveland Browns: The QB position remains the team’s biggest question - Dawg Pound Daily - Dawg Pound Daily - A Cleveland Browns Fan Site - News,...

Two Browns players listed in the Top 100 fantasy football players

I typically don’t start my fantasy football league until August, but perhaps it is my lack of advance gameplanning that has seen me come away with some rather disappointing seasons the past couple of years. Over at The MMQB, Gary Gramling took an early look at the Top 100 fantasy players for the 2017 season. For now, my primary interest was whether any members of the Cleveland Browns appeared:

45. RB Isaiah Crowell
94. WR Corey Coleman: Terrelle Pryor-to-Kenny Britt is a major downgrade...

Cody Kessler ate same bland food every day for three months

Cleveland Browns second-year quarterback Cody Kessler is one regimented and committed guy. At the close of the NFL season in January, Kessler started a strict diet when he ate the same bland foods for three months straight, changing things up only slightly. “I switched it up here and there maybe a couple days, different things,” Kessler said Wednesday, per Pat McManamon of ESPN. “But it worked for me. I really stuck with it. “I really never committed myself to a meal plan that...

A quick look at the state of all things Brownsian

Now that formal “Organized Team Activities” (OTA) have begun, it’s hard not to get caught up in that vibrant optimism where each year, our vaunted draft picks finally get to share the field with ‘real’ footballers. Perhaps this vernal hope is rooted in nature; as life-giving warmth and rain brings wildlife out of hibernation, flowers to bloom and birds north, so too it may awaken a primal energy within each of us where we seek...
