All-22 Review: Derrick Henry runs in to the record books

Breaking down Derrick Henry’s magical night.

The All-22 Review is a recurring feature here at Music City Miracles breaking down the tape from the previous week’s Titans game. The focus will vary depending on where the action on the field takes us, but the idea is to bring insights that may have been missed on the TV broadcast.

The 2018 Titans have been promising, infuriating, unpredictable, tantalizing, and several other adjectives, both good and bad. Whatever you think of them overall,...

Odell Beckham Jr. getting 2nd opinion, sounds like a long-shot for Sunday

Jordan Raanan of ESPN just fired off an interesting series of Tweets:

Odell Beckham Jr. is going Thursday for outside evaluation on his quad. He was a limited participant in practice Wednesday and didn't play against the Redskins.

— Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) December 13, 2018

Odell Beckham Jr. had his quad checked by a doctor Thursday and didn’t practice. He said this injury has been lingering since the Eagles game. Something didn’t feel right and he spoke up on Friday....

Rashaan Evans is coming into form

The first-round pick has really stepped up his game.

When the Titans drafted inside linebacker Rashaan Evans in the first round of this year’s draft, there were pretty high expectations for this Titans’ defensive front. But with injuries limiting his impact in the first half of the season, things went south for Evans.

Thankfully, that seems to be out of the picture, as Evans has gradually gotten better through the season’s progression. It’s tough to take anything away from tackle...

Titans News: Who Else?

Derrick Henry won AFC Offensive Player of the week, because of the number of Jaguars he left in his wake.

Marcus is rested and ready for the stretch run. The Titans will need him to play like he did in the stretch against the Chargers, Cowboys, and Patriots through the end of the year.

Dennis Kelly wasn’t at practice Wednesday, but should be there today. Derrick Henry said they need to build off of last week.

Jonnu Smith is upset he can’t play any more football this season, but he is...

Titans vs. Giants Wednesday Injury Report

The Titans returned to the practice field today. They had three guys that didn’t practice- David Fluellen, Dennis Kelly and Brian Orakpo. I panicked when I saw that Kelly was listed as not practicing, but it wasn’t injury related. Mike Vrabel said he expects Kelly back tomorrow.

Dane Cruikshank returned on a limited basis today. It has been a few weeks since Cruikshank practiced. Hopefully this means he his close to getting back on the field because having him as the 3rd safety is so...

Anthony Firkser interview part 2

In part two (read part one here) of our two-part exclusive interview with Titans TE Anthony Firkser, the New Jersey native talks the nuances behind his route running ability, Matt LaFleur’s detailed offense, Derrick Henry stiff arms and the Titans’ playoff chances.

JM: You haven’t stopped contributing since being elevated back onto the active roster. Have you always felt like this is exactly what would happen if you’d just been given an opportunity?

AF: Yeah. You have to be confident...

See who Todd McShay has the Titans taking in his fifrst mock draft

Todd McShay has released his first mock draft (In$ider) of the 2019 “draft season.” The good news for us here is that we haven’t completely crossed over into draft season yet. However, one loss will send us completely across the river. Please be kind to us, Saquon.

McShay has the Titans taking Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida with the 20th pick in the draft (where the Titans would be picking if the season ended today). His comments:

Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo will become free agents...

Titans News: Business = Booming

The NFL is doing good business. They cap is projected to go up as much as 14 million this year. This is why there’s no such thing as salary cap hell any more.

Jonnu Smith and Jack Conklin, both suffered knee injuries to end last season and they suffer the same fate this year. Jonnu had been playing very well, so it’s rough to see him get injured. Conklin had been playing poorly, but he needs time to get 100% healthy.

The second line in Jim Wyatt’s column was written directly to me,...

Titans place RT Jack Conklin on IR

The Titans have formally placed right tackle Jack Conklin on injured reserve, according to a team announcement. The club also officially placed tight end Jonnu Smith on IR.  Both Conklin and Smith went down in Thursday night’s game against the Jaguars. For Smith, the seriousness of the injury was readily apparent — the Titans learned on Friday that he would be sidelined for the year with a severe MCL injury. However, the Titans were hoping to get Conklin back on the field for the...

Titans vs. Giants: What are the odds?

The Titans are underdogs once again.

The Titans still need a little bit of help to make the playoffs, but above all else, they just have to take care of their own business. They’ve done that in back to back weeks against the Jets and the Jaguars, moving to 7-6 on the year. Now they’ll have to go back on the road against an interesting New York Giants team.

The Giants are a disappointing 5-8 this year, but they’re 4-1 over their last five games. A big reason why is Saquon Barkley, who...

Titans News: A Spoonful of Henry

A spooful of sugar helps the medicine go down, says the GOAT, Mary Poppins. Turron Davenport offers that the Titans should give teams a dose of Derrick Henry. Not too bold of a strategy since he’s been the superior running back to Lewis, but we’ll see if The Eyebrows actually does it.

Logan Ryan is helping out man’s best friend this holiday season.

The Giants have a ton of weapons on offense and a good enough defense that I am worried about Sunday’s game. It’s the type of game a...

Titans News: Any Given Sunday

The NFL was on one yesterday. The Raiders beat the Steelers, the Dolphins shocked the Patriots on a last second lateral play, the 49ers crushed the Broncos. What a weird day, but most importantly, the Ravens lost, making the Titans playoff chances a bit better. They still have to win out, but the Ravens have to be in reach.

Jim Wyatt might have well called this mailbag the “Derrick Henry Edition”. Lots of questions about the Titans’ record shredding back.

On Mike Vrabel’s conference...

NFL Playoff Picture: Where the Titans stand after some much needed help in Week 14

Tennessee has a chance to regain control of their own destiny next week.

The Titans playoff hopes remain alive as they head into their Week 15 game against the Giants thanks to their big win over the Jaguars on Thursday night and several key losses by some of their biggest competitors. Losses by the Ravens, Texans, Broncos, and Steelers all helped the Titans playoff odds in a big way. The current AFC South and AFC wildcard pictures are as follows:

Titans Jack Conklin to miss rest of regular season, may be available for playoffs

Titans offensive tackle Jack Conklin is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a knee injury against the Jaguars on Thursday night, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. If Tennessee secures a postseason berth, Conklin has a chance to return for the playoffs. The Titans have roughly a one-in-four chance of making the playoffs, per Five Thirty Eight. Although the Texans lost today, they’re still the overwhelming favorites to win the AFC South, so Tennessee will...
