Titans designate K Ryan Succop for return

The Titans have designated kicker Ryan Succop to return from injured reserve, according to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio (Twitter link). Tennessee placed Succop on IR with a knee injury just after initial 53-man rosters were set, meaning he’s eligible to return to game action in Week 9. With Succop sidelined, the Titans first turned to Cairo Santos at kicker, but he was cut after posting a dismal 44.4% field goal conversion rate through five games. Former Bears kicker Cody...

All-22 Review: How Ryan Tannehill provided the spark Mike Vrabel was asking for in his 300-yard debut

The Titans new starting quarterback wasted no time getting his wide receivers involved during Tennessee’ 23-20 win over the Chargers.

The All-22 Review is a recurring feature here at Music City Miracles breaking down the tape from the previous week’s Titans game. The focus will vary depending on where the action on the field takes us, but the idea is to bring insights that may have been missed on the TV broadcast.

Mike Vrabel said he wanted a spark...

Will you get Titans Buccaneers on your TV?

The map above (courtesy of 506 sports) shows you the broadcast map for the FOX games on Sunday (make note of the game being on FOX not CBS this week). The Titans vs. Buccaneers game is in the light blue, so if you don’t live directly in market for either team you won’t be getting this game on TV. This is no surprise with neither of these teams having any national appeal.

If you decide you want to watch another game at any point on Sunday, hopefully because the Titans are smoking the Bucs...

Titans News: Tannethrill

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Tannehill was excellent on Sunday. Jim Wyatt tells one of the mailbag writers to give Tannehill some credit after the fan questioned the validity of Tannehill’s performance.

Matt Dickerson is back after being waived by the Titans last week. To make the move they waived Derrick Roberson, who was on the practice squad and elevated for Sunday’s game.

Vote for Jeffery Simmons for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week. I can’t think of another...

Evaluating Ryan Tannehill’s First Game and the Titans’ Future at Quarterback

Ryan Tannehill played well in his debut as the Titans’ starting quarterback. How does that affect the position going forward?

One of the biggest questions for the Titans coming into the 2019 season was about the future of the quarterback position. What was supposed to be Marcus Mariota’s make-or-break year has seemingly become Ryan Tannehill’s prove-it campaign as he works to earn a starting job somewhere in the NFL in 2020.

Could that...

What can we expect from Ryan Tannehill moving foward?

Ryan Tannehill was excellent in his first start for the Titans. The numbers in the box score look great, 23-29 312 yards 2 touchdowns 1 interception 120.1 QB rating, but those numbers don’t come close to telling the story of how well he played. You all know I love Marcus Mariota, but the offense looked light years better with Tannehill under center. He was making tight window throws to wide receivers and throwing guys open all over the field. It...

Titans News: Unleashed Beasts

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

If Sunday’s game against the Chargers was any indication, the Titans have 2 incredible WRs in Corey Davis and AJ Brown. It’s almost like they should be utilized more. Both have great YAC ability and contested catch ability. Tannehill did a good job getting the ball to them and letting them eat.

Jim Wyatt says that the Titans were feeling themselves on Sunday. The enthusiasm they showed was contagious and we need to see more of it as the year goes on....

Monday Night Football Open Thread

The New York Jets play host to their division rival, the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.

It’s Sam Darnold looking to dethrone GOAT Brady. I actually like the Jets to cover the 10-point spread in this one. The Patriots defense has been nasty this year, but against mostly subpar competition. The Jets offense looked completely different last week with Darnold back in action.

Use this thread to discuss tonight’s game...

Bears sign Brent Urban two days after Titans release veteran DL

Brent Urban has agreed to terms with the Bears, according to his agent (on Twitter). The news comes just two days after the Titans released Urban. Prior to this season, Urban spent five years with the Ravens. A fourth-round pick out of Virginia, he became just the 26th Canadian ever selected in the NFL draft. It took some time for him to make his NFL debut. An ACL tear kept him out of action for the entirety of his rookie season, and a torn bicep cost him a large chunk of 2015 as well. Once...

Jeffery Simmons’ dominant debut is a potential game changer for the Titans defense

Photo by Bryan Lynn/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Let’s take a look at the impact Tennessee’s first round pick made in his NFL debut.

I don’t think you can overstate the impact that first round pick Jeffery Simmons made in his NFL debut on Sunday. Here’s one non-overstatement: the Titans are 2-5 without him.

I didn’t want to wait until the All-22 angles come out to review Simmons’ game so I pulled some good shots from the TV broadcast so we can go through them here. I’ll...

Three Things We Learned From The Titans Win Over The Chargers

Breathe, everyone, breathe.

A frustrating, nail biting, teeth clenching, gut wrenching, excruciating—and finally relieving—ending to one of the most bizarre wins in franchise history has kept the Titans season alive, improving their bleak yet inconsistent 2019 season with a 3-4 record.

On the final drive the Titans allowed two touchdowns that never were, and by some miracle the supposed scores from Austin Ekeler and Melvin Gordon were reversed by...

Titans' Jeffery Simmons caps ACL recovery with disruptive debut

Jeffery Simmons played 21 snaps in his debut

Photo by Bryan Lynn/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

When it was reported by Paul Kuharsky a couple of weeks ago that the Titans were targeting the Chargers game for Jeffery Simmons’s NFL debut it was pretty surprising. Simmons is just over 8 months removed from tearing his ACL getting ready for the 2019 NFL Draft. This is a really quick recovery for anyone, but especially a guy that weighs over 300 pounds. I just hoped the Titans knew what they were doing.

Well Simmons did indeed make...

Unpopular opinion: Mike Vrabel made the right call to not challenge the spot on the Ryan Tannehill sneak

Most of you know that I am by no means a Mike Vrabel apologist. Heck, I changed my Twitter name to #FireMikeVrabel (follow me here), but he absolutely made the right call not challenging the spot on the Ryan Tannehill sneak yesterday. Now, whether or not he made the right call to go for it there instead of punting is a conversation we can have at some point, but that is not what this post is about.

Here is the play in question (thanks to Mike for...

Titans News: Sparked

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Tannehill sparked the offense and Big Jeffery Simmons was a monster on the defensive side of the ball in a much needed win against the Chargers.

Jeffery Simmons is a massive human being. He also just played in his 1st NFL game ever and he notched several TFLs and a sack. He looks like the guy the Titans thought they were drafting.

Listen to Mike Vrabel’s post game speech after the big win.

The ending to the game yesterday was absolutely wild, and...

Winners and Losers from Titans 23, Chargers 20

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Jeffery Simmons and Ryan Tannehill sparkle in their debuts as the Titans get a much needed win.

What a win!

The Titans needed an epic goal line from Wesley Woodyard and the defense after controlling most of the second half, but they got the job done when it mattered. It was one of the wilder games we’ve seen at Nissan Stadium and it gets Tennessee to 3-4 — the same record they were sporting at this time last year — and just a game and a half back of the...

Recap: Titans beat Chargers 23-20 after an insane goal line stand

What a game.

At 2-4, Mike Vrabel had to try something. His ‘good to great’ motto that was used this offseason had backfired just six weeks into the season. In a make or break year, Marcus Mariota regressed. Vrabel’s hand was forced in week seven as he turned to Ryan Tannehill at quarterback against the Chargers.

The returns on the first drive? Points — which is more than you can say about any drive last week against the Broncos. Tannehill...

Titans vs. Chargers: Inactives

Both the Titans and the Chargers are looking for bounceback wins today in Nashville. Tennessee is coming off of an embarrassing performance in Denver — a game that saw them bench quarterback Marcus Mariota.

The Ryan Tannehill era begins today as Mike Vrabel looks for a spark. He’ll also get a shot in the arm defensive with the return of Cameron Wake, along with the debut of defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.

Tennessee will be without starting...
