Sunday morning Rangers news and links

Good morning, folks...

The Texas Rangers fell to the San Diego Padres yesterday by a score of 7-4.

The DMN’s game story notes that, hey, at least the Rangers didn’t get no-hit.

Nate Lowe had a ball go through the webbing of his glove yesterday, something that happened to Curtis Terry as well during spring training.

There was apparently a discussion on the Rangers bench about unwritten rules during a no hitter when the...

Padres 7, Rangers 4

Padres 7, Rangers 4

Last nights game was annoying. This one was...vexing. Jordan Lyles and Wes Benjamin were paired for the tandem start. Lyles, who was quite effective in his first time out, had issues this time around. Asked to face 19 batters, he allowed 9 of them to reach, with two home runs allowed. He managed to get through 4.1 innings because of three double plays turned behind him. Wes Benjamin also wasn’t as sharp as his...

3-5 - Rangers get a hit! Still lose 7-4 to Padres

At least it wasn’t a no-hitter

The Texas Rangers scored four runs and the San Diego Padres scored seven runs.

There was no no-hitter tonight so that was an improvement. On the other side of the coin, for the first time this season, the tandem starter bit didn’t provide successful results for the Rangers.

The first part of the pair — Jordan Lyles — allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with two dingers allowed in 4 1?3 innings. Lyles...

Rougned Odor is cleanshaven

USA TODAY NETWORK

Rougned Odor is being activated by the New York Yankees, and in accordance with team policy has gotten rid of his facial hair

Rougned Odor being traded to the New York Yankees from the Texas Rangers led to a number of people to ask: what is Rougie going to do about his beard?

One of Odor’s hallmarks with the Rangers was his facial hair. But the New York Yankees have a policy of requiring players to be cleanshaven. What would a Rougned Odor without a beard look...

Forever hitless.

Good morning, LSB.

It feels like for about the tenth time in the past year the Texas Rangers are in the national spotlight for something *not great*.

The Rangers were no-hit last night by San Diego’s own Joe Musgrove.

Evan Grant has notes and quotes from the game, mentioning the Padres’ apparent knack for doing wild S at Globe Life Field.

Jeff Wilson writes that it took San Diego 8,203 games to log the first no-hitter in their...

Thoughts on a 3-0 Rangers loss

Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

Padres 3, Rangers 0

Padres 3, Rangers 0

Whenever a pitcher is in the late innings of a game on the road where he has allowed no hits, you’ll get to a point — usually around the 8th inning — where there’s a shift in the atmosphere at the stadium, and the announcers start talking about how the home fans are rooting for the opposing pitcher, because everyone wants to witness this great fear, a no hitter. And I haven’t understood that. I don’t want to see...

3-4 - Padres christen The Shed with 3-0 Musgrove no-hitter over Rangers

PRELLER!!

The Texas Rangers scored zero runs and the San Diego Padres scored three runs.

Of course, that’s supremely burying the lede here as the Rangers also had zero hits tonight as they became the victims of the first no-hitter in the short history of The Shed.

San Diego starter Joe Musgrove was the man tossing zeroes against Texas tonight as he etched his name in the history books as the first Padre to throw a no-hitter in franchise history. The...

Bush, Holt to i.l., Martin, Tejeda active

The Rangers have some roster moves today

Texas Rangers transactions: Matt Bush and Brock Holt have been placed on the 10 day injured list, the team announced today. To replace the pair on the active roster the team has activated Brett Martin from the injured list and recalled Anderson Tejeda.

Holt is on the injured list with a right hamstring strain suffered on Tuesday. Tejeda, like Holt, is a left handed hitter, so he will presumably platoon with the...

Texas has a new third baseman today, as Anderson Tejeda has been called up to replace the injured Brock Holt, and is in the lineup and batting second. David Dahl is getting the day off, as he is apparently under the weather.

Texas and the Friars, here in Tejas

Coming off their first series win of the 2021 season, the Rangers finish off the homestand with a three game series against the San Diego Padres.

Lucky for the Rangers, they won’t have to face Fernando Tatis Jr. and his grand slam swing on a 3-0 count as he was put on the 10-day IL for left shoulder inflammation on Tuesday after leaving Monday’s game with a with a left shoulder subluxation.

Texas Rangers update for Friday, April 9

Good morning, LSB.

Nate Lowe is off to a white-hot start in 2021 and Jeff Wilson says a lot of that can be attributed to a plan developed in Spring Training.

Jon Daniels says he believes the Rangers are going to hit the 85% vaccination threshold required by the MLB in order for teams to loosen covid-19 restrictions.

Evan Grant answers a whole bunch of questions from fans, among them discussions on Josh Jung and on the...

Five impressions from the two series so far for the Rangers

The Rangers have completed their first two series of the 2021 season after Wednesday afternoons 2-1 win against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Rangers are 3-3 after six games.  As much as we all want the Rangers to win, the 2021 season isn’t necessarily about the wins and losses.

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Trevor Bauer had several balls confiscated for examination by MLB

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer had several baseballs he used in yesterday’s game against the Oakland A’s sequestered and sent to MLB for inspection, per Ken Rosenthal. MLB sent out a memo in March threatening discipline against pitchers who added illegal substances to baseballs, and the Bauer balls were reported sticky and had markings on...

Nate Lowe has a great explanation for having a terrible spring: he sucked on purpose.

Nick Solak’s homer last night helped power the team to a 2-1 win and a series win over Toronto.

After an Opening Day start that couldn’t be much worse without consisting of “blowing out UCL while serving up a grand slam pitch,” Kyle Gibson came back in a big way yesterday by throwing six shutout innings.

Chris Woodward says that Kyle Gibson “looked like...
