Ryne Nelson wasn’t sharp and the bullpen could only hold so long, resulting in the D-Backs adding to their league-leading tally of losses when scoring 5+ runs.
Game SummaryApple TV showed a graphic early in the game about MLB teams records when scoring 5 runs or more. Coming into tonight, the Diamondbacks had scored at least 5 runs in a game the second most times in baseball. They also held the distinction of having the most losses when scoring at least 5...

ANAHEIM – The Arizona Diamondbacks will open a three-game road series Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels and will look to pick up some much-needed victories.
SAN DIEGO – It was a strong effort on Thursday night, though the Diamondbacks couldn’t hang on as they were defeated 4-3 by the San Diego Padres. Arizona came out aggressively on Thursday night at Petco Park, but missed opportunities and a mid-game Padres surge led to a tough defeat in the series finale.

Will the Diamondbacks win the series?
Battle of the bullpens is advantage Diamondbacks.Through 5 July, each team’s bullpen’s wOBA (.342 & .339) was near league average (.330 wOBA) for all pitching. But July is different.
In July, the Angels’ .338 wOBA was about the same as their season average. Remarkably, the Diamondbacks’ wOBA improved to .270.
If the recent performance...
As the July 31 MLB trade deadline approaches, the New York Yankees are shopping for everything from bullpen and rotation additions to infield help. Regarding the latter, two infielders are clearly the best options.
One of the hottest names swirling around the July 31 MLB trade deadline is Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez.

Diamondbacks News(AZ Central) Arizona Diamondbacks rally, but come up a run short in series finale vs San Diego Padres
The series finale didn’t really come down to starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez (3-6) finishing only through four innings, because the Diamondbacks’ bullpen didn’t give up a run for the final four. It wasn’t any defensive mistake, nor was it, according to manager Torey Lovullo, All-Star Ketel Marte not...

Meh.
Well, looks like there was some confusion over tonight's recap. It was going to be Wes, and then it wasn't, but word of the latter only made it to me, and I didn't confirm anything else. So it's on me. Not that there was much joy to be had, and I suspect enthusiasm for reading about the game will not be high. As vaguely predicted in last night's recap, the D-backs again could only manage a split of a four-game series against a division rival, ahead of...

Where are the COVID draftees now five years later?
IntroductionLast year, I took advantage of the timing for the 2024 draft to do a little retrospective on the D-Backs’ 2019 draft given that most players take around five years to reach the majors. Following that same logic, those players that were drafted in 2020 should have already made their debut or should be approaching it. Of course, just everything about life in 2020...

With another injury to a starting pitcher, now seems the right time for the New York Yankees to acquire a National League ace.
SAN DIEGO – Thursday night’s series finale between the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres looms large for two clubs jostling to gain ground in a tough National League.
SAN DIEGO – Brandon Pfaadt delivered the best outing of his young career Wednesday night, and the Diamondbacks backed him up with a barrage of offense in an 8-2 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
It’s been well-covered across the baseball media world, in both articles and every corner of social media, that it is going to be extremely tough for the Arizona Diamondbacks to avoid being forced into selling at the upcoming MLB trade deadline on July 31.
With the Arizona Diamondbacks starting to lag behind in the NL Wild Card race, the New York Yankees could view them as sellers at the upcoming trade deadline.

Arizona Diamondbacks hit 4 home runs as Brandon Pfaadt dominates the Padres
“I know I can do more than that,” Perdomo said. “I just try to get on base, take a quality at-bat and if it’s a homer, it’s going to happen. If not, we keep working. I’m really proud of the work I’ve put in so far with the hitting coaches, with my hitting coaches at home and we say a phrase. ‘Hard work pays...
The Arizona Diamondbacks are under .500 for a good reason: Their starting pitching hasn't performed at the standard they thought it would. You'd be hard-pressed to tell the San Diego Padres differently, based on the first three games of the teams' four-game series that will wrap up Thursday night in San Diego.

TL;DR: Brandon Pfaadt shoved, the bats blasted, and the D-Backs ensured a series split ahead of the All-Star Break
My trepidation was high coming into this game. I had little faith in the starting pitching matchup as Brandon Pfaadt has been astonishingly bad (6.21 ERA and 1.17 WHIP) over the past month or so while Dylan Cease has been merely mediocre (4.70 and 1.43 respectively). If you combine those two results with the inconsistency of the Arizona offense and...
