Zac Gallen was one out away from completing seven shutout innings when things went completely south for Arizona. With two outs, the Tigers erupted for six runs in an inning where Arizona went through three different pitchers.
Ketel Marte extended his hitting streak to a personal career-high 17 games, putting the Diamondbacks briefly ahead before they ultimately lost 8-3 to the Tigers.
Despite an excellent start from their ace, Zac Gallen, the Diamondbacks dropped the second game of the series against the Detroit Tigers. The big inning came to bite them, as Detroit scored six runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Arizona 8-3 at Chase Field.

A rousing pitchers’ duel, until suddenly it wasn’t....
This game was our shot to even the series against the Detroit Tigers after last night’s abject drubbing. with Zac Gallen taking the mound against Detroit righthander Jack Flaherty. Gallen’s our undisputed ace at this point. For the Tigers, Flaherty is not (we saw that guy last night).
And it was pretty much a pitcher’s duel from the get-go. Gallen pitched around a...

The second Cincinnati Series was less fun than the first
Hello again! Last week you were asked to provide a new version of the “Charge” chant that could make Arizona proud. There was a lot of congestion in the best answers, but that’s ok!
Tied for Second Place were AttracheKs and gzimmerm with 4 rec’s apiece.
It’s hard to imagine this not becoming super popular in the state and around baseball. It’s so simple, so elegant...
Ryne Nelson’s start against the Detroit Tigers Friday night can’t be described as anything other than a disaster. After allowing eight runs on 11 hits in four-plus innings, his ERA ballooned to 7.06 while opponents are hitting .366 with a .985 OPS against the hard-throwing right-hander.
While there was not much for Torey Lovullo to say after the Diamondbacks’ 13-0 loss against the Tigers, he did find one positive to highlight during the postgame press conference: the game was over.

Zack Greinke worked out at the Diamondbacks extended spring training camp. As a Diamondbacks fan, I’m glad he was welcomed. His skill and athleticism at age 40 are remarkable. My mind is filled with fanciful thoughts of the Diamondbacks signing him. This season, I’d be thrilled if he pitches for the Diamondbacks (even as a spot starter).
What if the Diamondbacks Signed Zack Greinke? He has a history of helping teams reach the playoffs and World...

Ryne Nelson tossed four-plus innings of batting practice while Tarik Skubal threw a one-hit gem of a start. The results are what one would expect.

Ryne Nelson found himself getting nickeled and dimed by Detroit’s hitters in the early-going. By comparison, the Diamondbacks did not get their first baserunner until the bottom of the fifth inning, after the wheels had already fallen off and the Snakes were down...

If the lineups don't show here, it's because I forgot to paste them in before I got on a flight to Mexico for the weekend. :)It feels like the Tigers are infrequent visitors to Chase Field, but by the end of this series, they’ll have played here 23 times. Even before we get under way, that’s already more than any American League team bar the Rangers and Mariners (and the Astros, but they were...
Before Friday’s game with the Detroit Tigers, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo gave an update on the status of injured center fielder Alek Thomas. Lovullo told reporters, including Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic, that Thomas’ hamstring soreness has subsided and will resume some baseball activities in the next few days.

On Saturday, Chase Field will be vibrant with the colors and sounds of Mexican culture as the Arizona Diamondbacks host Mexican Heritage Night during their game against the Detroit Tigers.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers will be well rested before starting a three-game interleague series Friday night in Phoenix. The Diamondbacks had Thursday off after a three-game series win over the Cincinnati Reds earlier in the week.

“It gets late early out there,” to quote (who else?) Yogi Berra
The Diamondbacks have been doing a lot better of late. The 2024 season hopefully reached its low point with the 13-1 shellacking by the Padres at Chase Field on May 4, a defeat which saw the team drop to a record of 14-20. It saw their Fangraphs playoff odds drop below one in four for the first time this year, sinking to 24.3%. That probably felt optimistic, considering after the...
