The World Series winning outfielder went on to have just as big an impact in youth baseball when his playing days ended.
On Thursday, fans of the Detroit Tigers and baseball fans everywhere, got the sad news that former center fielder Chet Lemon had died at the age of 70. The three-time All-Star played for 16 major league seasons and was a crucial cog in the World Series champion Tigers squad of 1984.

Game One: Tigers 10, Rockies 2In the first game of the afternoon, it was Casey Mize on the mound for the Tigers up against Kyle Freeland for the Rockies.

It’s time for our first check in with the club’s top hitting prospects.
As early as it is in the Major League Baseball calendar, it’s a week earlier in the lower levels of the minor leagues. So it goes without saying from the start that we’re talking about early impressions of prospects in the Detroit Tigers’ farm system. We’ll do pitchers in a separate article. For now lets just take a look and who is performing well...
The Detroit Tigers will play a doubleheader today against the Colorado Rockies to wrap up their series. Detroit won game one of the series last night. The Tigers will have Casey Mize on the mound for game one.
Best interview of the season so far?
Happy Doubleheader Day, friends! The Tigers will see a heck of a lot of the Rockies today, and hopefully the games won’t be quite as close as they were last night.
Last night, Jason and Andy were joined during the broadcast by Jack White of the White Stripes, and not only was he a good luck charm, helping the Tigers tie up the game, he was also incredibly cool and knowledgeable (and apparently never misses a game!)
Some interesting other little...

The Tigers play in a doubleheader on Thursday in an attempt to take the series and even complete the sweep.
After a two-day layoff that included a weather-postponed matchup on Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers resumed play on Wednesday night and took the series opener from the Colorado Rockies in a battle that was much closer than expected.
Ultimately, the good guys prevailed 8-6 on a wild night at Coors Field.
That postponed game was...
Scores, news, and notes from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Toledo Mud Hens 2, Iowa Cubs 1 (box)This was a very well pitched game with no run scoring until the Hens pulled it together late and put a pair of runs on the board to win.
Lael Lockhart Jr. got the start, and the Cubs could do nothing against him. The left-hander tossed five innings of one-hit ball, and then Matt Manning came on for two perfect innings of relief with four strikeouts....
The Detroit Tigers and Colorado Rockies were slated to play three games in three days, but rain condensed the schedule. Detroit took the opener 8-6 in 10 innings on Wednesday night, and now the teams will wrap up the series with a traditional doubleheader on Thursday.
Trey Sweeney had three hits, including an RBI double in a two-run 10th inning, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Colorado Rockies 8-6 in Denver on Wednesday night.

The Tigers and Rockies had themselves a hit fest.
Happy Wednesday, everyone. The Tigers were meant to start their series in Denver on Tuesday, but rain had other opinions about that, so the first game of the series was tonight, with a doubleheader planned for Thursday. The altitude at Coors Field is always a changemaker, and that was clearly true for Jackson Jobe tonight, who got the start for the Tigers against Chase Dollander for the Rockies.
In the first, the Tigers...

The Detroit Tigers are on a tear, and as of now, they're the best team in the American League. One player's return to form has a lot to do with that.
Today, the Detroit Tigers play their first game against the Colorado Rockies. Yesterday was supposed to be game one, but it was postponed due to the weather.

This time last year, that wouldn’t have felt possible
Happy Wednesday, everyone. Quiet news day, but still plenty to get into as we look at the Tigers’ incredible record; what’s working well for Tyler Holton; whether the Twins could make a pushback; and some crazy usher antics at a Pirates’ game.
Let’s just jump right into it.

Tuesday’s rain out compresses the Colorado Rockies series in to two days, and the Tigers will use the opportunity to keep their staff rested.
In the early going, the Detroit Tigers appear to be preparing for a long 2025 season that extends into October. At each opportunity, they’ve pushed their starting rotation back a day. Tuesday’s rainout in Colorado, which will be made up in a doubleheader on Thursday, provided them with another opportunity to...
