Welcome to the Thursday Boil.
I know a loss is disappointing, but we’re still on track for a 142-win season. The regular season is a novel with 162 pages, and without a few trials and tribulations through the first quarter, it isn’t a very good book. Keep reading. I promise it will pick up soon.

Astros waste a quality Verlander start
It was a lot to ask. The Astros, notorious extra inning game losers, were not about to win two of them in a row.
Tonight, they found another bizarre way to lose, flying into a 7-4 double play to end the game.

He's had a tough first month of the season. The typically steady left fielder has yet to hit a home run.
The Houston Astros placed outfielder Chas McCormick on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday because of right hamstring discomfort. In a corresponding move, the Astros recalled shortstop Jacob Amaya from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Bregman’s Slow Start and Decline in Team Defense
As we hope for the Astros to start chipping away at the team’s poor Win% in 2024, let’s look at a couple of issues which may be relevant to the team’s start to this season. The first issue is the team’s defense, which has been sub-par, to put...
The New York Mets have been on and off through the first 29 games of the 2024 MLB season, but one move they can attempt by the trade deadline could work to mold a championship pedigree for the team.

Astros’ Joey Loperfido:...
It’s been hard to watch Jose Abreu lately. If you’re a Houston Astros fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Abreu, 37, was mercifully optioned to West Palm Beach in a surprise transaction to close out a brutal month of April that featured a .099/.156/.113 triple slash, along with a .269 OPS (-21 wRC+) in 77 plate appearances.
Pinch hitter Victor Caratini slugged a two-run, walk-off home run with two outs in the 10th inning, lifting the Houston Astros to a 10-9 victory over the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday.

Houston wins it 10-9 on a walk-off homer in the 10th
WOW, what a wild game. Honestly, I am not even that excited, just relieved they didn’t blow another lead. This game had all the mixings for another frustrating Astros loss, but thanks to a pinch-hit, walk-off homer by Caratini in the 10th, Houston extended its win streak to three and closed off an abysmal April on a high note. If you didn’t watch here is the “TLDR”, which is what the cool kids call...

With José Abreu hitting .099/.156/.113 with a -21 wRC+ across 77 plate appearances, it was only a matter of time before something broke the status quo. Well, consider it broken...for now.
The Astros were willing to reduce Abreu’s playing time to help his productivity, splitting time with the left-handed Jon Singleton. But the idea felt like a short-term bandaid, especially with Abreu still struggling at the plate. Even when he...
He is batting .099 this season. He has just seven hits in 71 at-bats, with only one extra-base hit. He has just three walks and 18 strikeouts.
First baseman José Abreu is not with the Astros right now and will be optioned Wednesday to West Palm Beach.
The Houston Astros have had a busy day with their roster ahead of their series with the Cleveland Guardians. The team called up a versatile slugger in Joey Loperfido, designated reliever Joel Kuhnel for assignment, and sent utility infielder Grae Kessinger to the injured list.
The Houston Astros and first baseman Jose Abreu agreed that the former American League Most Valuable Player would benefit from a minor league option. Astros general manager Dana Brown revealed Tuesday that Abreu accepted an assignment to the team's spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., effective Wednesday.
