The San Francisco Giants will get their first look at the Phillies' dominant rotation this weekend when the teams open a four-game series in Philadelphia on Friday.
The Phillies announced that right-hander Ricardo Pinto has cleared waivers and been sent outright to Triple-A LeHigh Valley. This is his second career outright, meaning he has the right to reject this assignment and elect free agency, though it’s not yet clear if he’s chosen to do so.

The secondaries are a primary problem
The appearance of a reliever is an unpopular thing. Unless you’re the flamethrowing closer, that anointed, priestly being emerging from his chambers to the sound of a carefully chosen hymn, the fans would usually rather see someone else. For the other relievers, the ones without their own memorable theme song, many fans tend to remember only the blowups. And so non-closing relievers tend to develop a bit of a sour...
After setting a team record for wins in April, it’s worth a look at the Philadelphia Phillies’ best 32-game starts in their history. The 2024 Phillies sit at 21-11 through 32 games.

A day off, finally
Why are the Phillies playing so many games this early in the year? It seems like there are almost no off days for the team (and by extension, us), which has to be bearing down on them somewhat. Is it because of their going to London later on? They do have two days off before playing a game there and a day off once they return home. Is MLB making those games up now?
Just seems like a lot of baseball and not a lot of rest.
On to the...

Zack Wheeler wasn’t perfect, but he was still an ace
Aces are aces for a reason. They’re the ones teams count on to basically win each and every time they’re out, but they’re also human. They are going to have games where they aren’t at their best, when their stuff is a little off.
Yet they still battle. They still use everything they have get outs whatever way they can.
Today, Zack Wheeler didn’t have his best stuff. He was at 74 pitches through...
Kyle Schwarber had two singles and two RBI to lift the Philadelphia Phillies past the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 on Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif. Whit Merrifield added two hits for the Phillies.

It was a good month.
April of 2024 has drawn to a close for the Phillies. Long held as a month where the team is still finding its footing, this version of the calendar saw the Phillies with their highest winning percentage in March/April since 2011. Having watched them day in and day out, we can all agree on several things that are true as well as have real conversation about concerns the team still has.
The rotation is really, really goodPitching was...

That’s Brisk®, baby!
Some late game heroics from the much maligned bottom of the order salvaged a game and a series that looked to be lost as the Philadelphia Phillies came back to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 on Tuesday night.
Kyle Schwarber opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a three-run no-doubter homer off Angels’ starter, Tyler Anderson, following a Nick Castellanos single and a four-pitch walk issued to Bryson...

Let’s talk about it.
The Philadelphia Phillies talked in spring training about not digging themselves into a hole in the first month of the season. While the Phillies have been able to rebound from slow starts the past two years and still make the playoffs, such starts have prevented them from competing with the Atlanta Braves for the NL East title.

What happened last night?
Typing this out, Griffin Canning just balked in a run by not picking off Trea Turner on his third disengagement. Top of my head, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that rule enforced since they changed the rules last season. I’m sure it’s been called at some point in the past two seasons, but I wonder how many times it’s been called on a right-handed pitcher though.

Six hits and nine walks but only five runs.
A hot start to the season brings the Phillies to a 19-10 record against a scuffling Angels team that faces more drama off the field than on it.
The offense started with a Kyle Schwarber single into right field, Trea Turner taking a first-pitch fastball to the back, and Bryce Harper working a seven-pitch walk.
Angels starter Griffin Canning then did the one thing you can’t do in April, give Alec Bohm anything to...

The Philadelphia Phillies match the franchise record set in 2011 for wins in April. With games against the Los Angeles Angels still to come in April, the Phillies have matched a team record set with 18 wins this month.

This one was actually closer than we thought
Sometimes, there are players that stick out as the obvious choices for our award. A hitter who has gone off for the week, a pitcher that has spun two games worthy of recognition. For the Phillies, this week is one of those weeks. There were two players, a pitcher and a hitter apiece, that truly do deserve to have their names called. However, when you get your name mentioned among those in the team’s record books,...

Have another day, boys
Another series win, this time a sweep. If there is any hope of catching the Braves, it’s imperative that the Phillies keep this streak of good play alive. It’s early still and there will be some falters, but with the Braves barely skipping a beat without Spencer Strider, the Phillies will need to take care of business, like they have been of late.
