The Texas Rangers start a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers tonight as they continue their road trip. The Rangers will have Patrick Corbin on the mound going up against Tarik Skubal for Detroit.

The Rangers have purchased the contract of Sam Haggerty
The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of infielder/outfielder Sam Haggerty, the team announced today. To make room for Haggerty on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned outfielder Dustin Harris to AAA Round Rock. The Rangers had an open 40 man roster spot due to Leody Taveras being claimed on waivers, so there was no move necessary on that front.

Seong-Jun Kim, a shortstop/pitcher from South Korea, has been signed by the Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers have an agreement to sign Seong-Jun Kim, a shortstop and righthanded pitcher from South Korea, to a $1.2 million bonus, per Baseball America. Kim is a high schooler who, per BA, was expected to go high in this year’s KBO draft. The Rangers reportedly will develop him as a two-way player, which is fun.

The Texas Rangers have moved on from Leody Taveras and bought themselves a little more wiggle room under the CBT line
Leody Taveras is no longer a member of the Texas Rangers, having been claimed on waivers by the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
This ends the saga of a player who was, prior to being claimed by the Mariners, the longest tenured player on the team (in terms of time in the organization), someone who spent a lot of time atop the Texas...

Texas Rangers update for Friday, May 9.
Good morning, LSB.
The Rangers were shut out in another loss yesterday.
Kennedi Landry writes about Jack Leiter having to battle from the get go in the loss.
Shawn McFarland says the Rangers’ trip to Boston went awry thanks to the crappy offense rearing its ugly head once again.
Elsewhere the Rangers have signed an 18-year-old international prospect that the kids are calling “Korean Ohtani.”

Twas not the Rangers day. Do we want to dwell on the not day of the Rangers? Do we want to think about Jack Leiter’s command issues, his failure to miss bats, the hitters’ inability to hit with runners on early in the game, and then hit at all as the game progressed? What would that provide us? Additional misery from an unfortunate, misbegotten game a thousand some odd miles away in the mid-day hours? ...Photo by Maddie Malhotra/Boston Red Sox/Getty Images
You’re gonna need a bigger Boone
The Texas Rangers scored no runs but the Boston Red Sox scored five runs.
After back-to-back decent games with solid, albeit kind of flukish BABIP-dependent output at the plate, Texas didn’t score today. They also went 0-for-7 with RISP. The Rangers haven’t had a hit with runners in scoring position over the last two games. That drought is now at 17 attempts.
Also, a blister that knocked him...
The Texas Rangers recalled utility man Ezequiel Duran from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, one day after outfielder Kevin Pillar went on the injured list.
Pitching for a Texas Rangers team that has been struggling to pick up wins lately, right-hander Jacob deGrom is far from the problem. So far this season, he resembles the star the Rangers envisioned they’d be getting when they signed him before the 2023 season.

Red Sox 6, Rangers 4
Four runs scored, and yet a loss. I guess that’s progress, of a sort, as way too often the Rangers have lost games and scored fewer than four runs. Tyler Mahle, who had been well nigh untouchable heading into the game, was not sharp. He allowed just a pair of runs, on solo homers by Alex Bergman and Wilyer Abreu, but was not fooling the Red Sox and giving up loud contact all over the place. Mahle needed 88 pitches to...After evening the three-game series on a night that featured clutch hitting from both Wilyer Abreu and Alex Bregman, the Boston Red Sox look for their second consecutive win over the visiting Texas Rangers in a Thursday matinee.

The strongest Rangers killer in history versus the strongest Rangers killer of today
The Texas Rangers scored four runs but the Boston Red Sox scored six runs.
Bret Boone’s like, “Oh. I see.”
The Rangers did plate a better-than-season-average number of runs tonight so it wasn’t nothing but they also went a remarkable 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position, left nine on base, and fell back on trends that have plagued them all season in a game they...
The Texas Rangers placed veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with inflammation in his lower back. The team planned to announce a corresponding roster move prior to Thursday's game but will play with 25 players in Boston on Wednesday night.

The Texas Rangers will be playing shorthanded on Wednesday
Texas Rangers outfielder Kevin Pillar has been placed on the 10 day injured list with lower back inflammation, retroactive to May 4. No roster move to replace Pillar on the active roster is being made today, but will be made tomorrow. It is being reported that Ezequiel Duran will take Pillar’s place.
