Well, they moved Springer down in the lineup. Maybe today, we could get a baserunner before the eighth inning?
Justin Turner is at 21 straight PA without getting on base. I don’t know what is going on with him. Maybe the ‘virus’ is worse than we were told. Not being able to hit the ball is contagious.
Ross Atkins spoke to the press. Honestly, there is nothing he could say that would help....

Blue Jays pitching prospect has given up no runs through 15 innings
Around The Nest is the Blue Jays’ minor league podcast where the broadcasters from up and down the farm system get together to talk about the performances of Blue Jays minor leaguers in the past two weeks.
This week, we welcome Chris Georges, the Vancouver Canadians’...
The visiting Tampa Bay Rays got more than expected from starter Tyler Alexander on Friday in the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. On Saturday afternoon, Tampa Bay will attempt to clinch the series vs.Toronto.

Rays’ starter Tyler Alexander had a perfect game until one out in the 8th.
In the eighth, Justin Turner led off with a flyout. Twenty straight at-bats without a hit for Turner. I don’t know if it is because of the ‘virus’ he and many of the guys have had or just that his bat has slowed up so much that he just can’t get a hit anymore.
After that, Danny Jansen singled on a soft fly to right. We had a couple of hard-hit outs,...

The first of three against the Jays.
There is a bit of news. Bowden Francis will pitch on Saturday, Chad Green will pitch on Sunday in Buffalo, and Yariel Rodriguez will pitch on Tuesday.
And apparently, Joey Votto exists and has been taking BP. He might play in a minor league game soon.
Tonight’s lineup. Yep, Springer is in the leadoff spot. Bo is hitting second.

The Jays start a series with the Rays tonight.
The Rays are in third place in the AL East with a 23-22 record.
They are 10th in the AL in runs scored per game at 4.16 (Jays are 13th at 3.62).
They are 12th in the AL in runs allowed at 4.78 (Jays are 10th at 4.74).
I sent Danny Russell, manager of DRaysBay, some questions, and he was kind enough to answer. He also sent me some similar questions.
1. The Rays seem to be dancing around the .500...
For reasons unknown, there’s been a major power outage at first base and designated hitter this year around Major League Baseball. Entering the day, there are only eight teams have DHs hitting .250 or higher, while only 11 have a .320 or higher OBP.
It’s no secret that if the Toronto Blue Jays are going to be successful in 2024, they need to get some offensive production out of their top bats in the lineup.

Looking at the Jays batters over the last two weeks.
Over the past two weeks, the Blue Jays have been 4-6. Our batters hit .241/.309/.354, averaging 4.1 runs per game, a nice step up from the 2.9 runs we had the two weeks before.
HotVladimir Guerrero: Started all 10 games. Hit .410/.489/.513 with 1 double, 1 home run, 8 RBI, 6 walks, 7 strikeouts and 1 steal.
He played every inning of the last ten games at first...
Jack Morris turns 69 today.
Morris was a very good pitcher back in the 1980s with the Tigers. In my mind, he’s not a Hall of Famer, but a guy who has won many games (helped by great Tiger offense) and pitched many innings. But the Veterans Committee disagreed (if you made a list of borderline players in the Hall, most of them would have been put in the Hall by the Veterans Committee or whatever they call the Veterans Committee these days). In 1983, he threw 293.2 innings, with 20...

Walk-off losses hurt.
The Jays were up 2-1 to start the top of the ninth. Isiah Kiner Falafa in at second as a defensive replacement for Davis Schneider, and Jordan Romano in. The first batter, Jordan Westburg, hit a ground ball up the middle, but it took a funny hop, and IKF couldn’t make the play. The next batter, Adley Rutschman, hits a fly ball barely over the wall in right. And that was the game.
You don't expect a...
The game starts at 12:30 but I’m I’m out until about then, so I’m putting this up early.
We have a doubleheader today. I’ll try to put up separate GameThreads for each, but this is a busy day. I didn’t plan for a doubleheader.
And apparently, it is a ‘school day’ at the ballpark. 240 busloads of kids will be coming to the game, putting more fans in Candem than we’ve seen since Cal Ripken was playing.
Yusie Kikuchi gets the start. Bassitt will start game two....
The Toronto Blue Jays talked about building momentum after winning the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles. That idea met a temporary roadblock when Tuesday night's game was rained out.

So, today’s game is moved to tomorrow at 3:00 Eastern, and they will play a doubleheader. I guess it gives all the sickies time to spread their germs to more players recover from their illness.
I was looking forward to tonight’s game, but now I guess I’ll just watch the Oilers/Canuks game.
There isn’t much for news, but Danny Jansen was going to be in the lineup tonight, so he’s feeling better.
And MLB Pipeline has updated its top 100...

CJ Van Eyk dominates, and some more under the radar guys
It was another typical week in the Blue Jays farm system, with Buffalo once again posting the lone winning week at 5-2 while Vancouver and Dunedin found themselves on opposite sides of close outcomes with Vancouver walking off two games while Dunedin was walked off three times. Below are notes and observations from Week 6:
Buffalo’s rotation no longer has much in the way of interest,...The Toronto Blue Jays minor league affiliates last week combined to go 12-13 and combined to outscore their opponents 111-106. The Triple-A affiliate the Buffalo Bisons went 5-2 and outscored their opponent 42-26.

Roy Halladay would have turned 45 today.
Roy was either the best or the second-best Blue Jays starter of all time, depending on who you ask, but there is no doubt he and Dave Stieb are the two best starters in our history. I think Stieb was the best AL pitcher of the 1980s, and Halladay was the best AL pitcher of the ‘aughts.’ Doc is second on our franchise wins list at 148 (Stieb had 175), second in BWAR at 48.5 (Stieb 57.2), and third in starts at...

Blue Jays (19-22) vs Orioles (26-14)
After a nice win last night, the Blue Jays will attempt to take the series against the division leading Orioles tonight. The game once again is set to get underway at the slightly earlier start time of 6:35 ET.
Blue Jays’ StarterChris Bassitt will make his 9th start of the season, coming into play with a 3-5 record and a 5.06 ERA. That’s certainly not an encouraging line for Bassitt, as he has struggled a fair...
The Toronto Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate is a series against the Worcester Red Sox who are the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and they took five of their seven games.
Daulton Varsho homered to tie the game in the eighth inning and knocked in the go-ahead run with a groundout in the 10th to lift the visiting Toronto Blue Jays to a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night to begin a three-game series.
