First practice in the books for rookies
There was, of course, a lot of fuss about what number New York Giants rookie Abdul Carter, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, would wear.
Carter asked Lawrence Taylor if he could don the retired No. 56, and got rejected. Phil Simms broached the idea of letting Carter wear No. 11, which Carter had worn at Penn State....

That is a surprising move to get to 90-man roster limit
After signing 13 undrafted free agents, the New York Giants needed to release one more player on Friday to get to the 90-man offseason roster limit. The move they reportedly made, cutting wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey, is a surprise.
Humphrey, a six-year veteran, signed with the Giants as a free agent this offseason. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Humphrey had 31...

The rookies have their numbers, at least for now
The New York Giants have revealed their 2025 draft class' numbers.
Third overall pick Abdul Carter won't be wearing number 56 or his college number of 11. Instead, he'll be wearing number 51.
That number, of course, was worn for 13 years by long snapper (and nominal linebacker) Zac DeOssie. That might not be the linebacker Carter had in mind, but it's a fine number and DeOssie was one of the best in the NFL...

The New York Giants seemingly got a steal in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft when they selected Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz. Many mock drafts projected Schmitz as a first-round pick.
Giants first-round draft pick Abdul Carter has chosen to wear No. 51 for his rookie season after flirting with the possibilities of donning the retired numbers of legends Lawrence Taylor (56) and Phil Simms (11).

The Giants need more from JMS in Year 3
Pro Football Focus recently named New York Giants center John Michael Schmitz as the team’s top breakout candidate heading into the 2025 season.
