The year 1984 was a strange year for the Royals. They won the Western Division by three games with a record of 84-78. 84 wins. You need that many wins today just to sneak into the Wild Card Round.

All of the power and might was in the Eastern Division that year. Five Eastern teams finished with a better record than the Royals. The Detroit Tigers won the East with a record of 104-58, but that doesn’t quite tell the story. If you were alive in 1984, you knew....
