Are platoons a bad thing?

There’s a lot of talk about the team having two platoons in the outfield lately. Most of that probably has to do with the fact that Max Kepler is making so much money I think, but is it really the worst thing in the world that they do have these platoons? Whatever is helping the team win should be the priority, so if this is what works, they should be doing it.
