Mike Foltynewicz is the next John Smoltz! Or, at least, that’s what I hoped prior to the start of the season.
The 6’4” 220lb right-hander looks like Smoltz. Minus Smoltz’s opening stretch with his glove overhead, they have a similar pitching motion. Foltynewicz’s toolbox of pitches includes a four seam fastball, slider, sinker, curveball and change-up while Smoltz used a four seam fastball, split-finger fastball, slider, curveball and change-up.
