The Mets defeated the A’s 7-5 in a mistake-filled, seesaw game. Steven Matz again looked not at his best in the first when he allowed three straight hits to start the game. Oakland took an early 1-0 lead but the lefty settled in nicely until the fifth. Matz picked off Rajai Davis but Lucas Duda was unable to complete the throw to second base for the out. The A’s would take advantage of their good fortune and score two runs that inning.
