The Pelicans got the only win today. Dan Straily returns.
Right-hander Dan Straily was assigned to the Iowa Cubs today.

The Iowa Cubs had their wings clipped by the Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays), 2-0 in a game that ended in the bottom of the fifth inning because of rain.

Today’s roster moves: Here
At this writing the Yankees are blowing out the Brewers, 15-5 in the eighth inning. If that score holds up and the Cubs win tonight, the Cubs will be in first place in the NL Central.

A NOTE ON BACK-TO-BACK LOSSES: The Cubs have not lost back-to-back games to the same opponent in 25 games, since they began the season 0-2 at Texas. Last year, they had a similar streak of 53...Getty Images

The Cubs made some pitching adjustments before Sunday’s game.
It was reported after Saturday’s game that Jordan Wicks would not start Sunday because of “left forearm tightness.” This is not a good sign at all, and the Cubs aren’t taking any chances. They’ve placed him on the 15-day injured list.
Hayden Wesneski will make today’s start in Wicks’ place.
The Cubs also optioned Luke Little back to Triple-A Iowa. Little’s had some rough...

Play along as the Cubs and Red Sox finish a three-game set at Fenway Park.
It’s that time again. The Cubs are the featured game of the week on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and here at Bleed Cubbie Blue that means Baseball Bingo.
I started making these cards when the booth was much more prone to groan-inducing gaffes in 2019. However, even with the much improved booth it’s still a fun way to pass the time when the Cubs find themselves in the featured game of the...

Bombed in Boston, the Cubs lose 17-0!
I have one real goal in writing about this one. Write even less than Al did. He had to cover some of the carnage. There is really no need to talk about this game. It was a train wreck.
From my perspective, there were two frustrating things about this game and neither really amounts to much in the long run. First, part of the fun of following baseball is the fun of following statistics. This one will distort...

The Chicago Cubs had an extremely forgettable performance on Saturday. They managed absolutely nothing as they were demolished by the Boston Red Sox 17-0.
The injury bug has struck the Chicago Cubs on repeat this season, but they keep winning all the same.
The Chicago Cubs were scheduled to start Jordan Wicks in Sunday’s rubber match against the Boston Red Sox. However, Chicago will now have to pivot. The Cubs scratched Wicks due to left forearm tightness.

Only one win in the system tonight, but it was a terrific pitching performance by the Smokies.
Left-hander Mitchell Tyranski was promoted from Myrtle Beach to South Bend. In a corresponding move, South Bend left-hander Jack Patterson was placed on the injured list.
A lot of good pitching and weak offense today. Except in South Bend, where there was solid hitting and terrible pitching.

I watched this game so you didn’t have to.
Remember when I wrote these words in the recap to Friday’s game?
Friends, the Chicago Cubs are a very good baseball team
I’m not going back on those words but oh my goodness, the Cubs did not look like a very good baseball team in a blowout 17-0 loss to the Red Sox Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox scored a pair off Ben Brown in the first inning and really, everyone could have gone home right...
Per Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Garrett Cooper from the Chicago Cubs on Saturday in exchange for cash considerations.
The Chicago Cubs have been playing great baseball this season and that's without ace Justin Steele having thrown a pitch since Opening Day.
The Chicago Cubs reportedly traded Garrett Cooper to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. The veteran joined the Cubs as a non-roster invitee to Spring Training.
The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Garrett Cooper from the Chicago Cubs on Saturday for cash considerations, multiple outlets reported. Cooper, 33, was designated for assignment by the Cubs this week after hitting .270 with a home run and six RBIs in 12 games.
