Tyler Wade wins on the margins

The San Diego Padres broke spring camp with Brandon Lockridge and Yuli Gurriel as their last roster picks. Both Eguy Rosario and Tyler Wade were out of options and had to be placed on waivers.

Both cleared waivers and accepted minor league contracts, both being assigned to Triple-A El Paso. The Padres were surprised that Wade wasn’t claimed by another team but had really hoped to retain him:

For the second night in a row, the San Diego Padres bullpen could not keep the New York Yankees from scoring and earning a win.

The Padres took a 3-1 lead into the eighth inning and Jason Adam allowed a game-tying two-run home run to Trent Grisham to make the score, 3-3. Neither side plated a run in the ninth and the game went to extra innings.

Yankees ride momentum of big inning into series finale vs. Padres

During a recent run of close defeats, the New York Yankees were pleased with the quality of their at-bats and felt a big inning was coming. The Yankees did not necessarily expect to see it against the best bullpen in the major leagues but were thrilled when they erupted for 10 runs in the seventh inning on Tuesday.

There is hope the former Bogaerts is back

Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts is the third highest paid player on the team after Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado. His 11-year, $280 million contract that he signed prior to the 2023 season says he needs to perform at a similar level in order to justify his status.

Bogaerts knows that he has not done that so far for his team:

A rainy weekend in Pittsburgh has put the San Diego Padres back on their winning ways. A three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates was a great start to a three-city, nine-game road trip.

But Sunday’s pitching performance by starter Stephen Kolek may have removed any obstacle placed by the struggles from the back end of the rotation. One start...
