Xiaomi tries to make fun of Apple's ill-fated Crush ad. The result isn't great.

When you come for the king, you best not miss.

That, at least, is what comes to my mind after watching Xiaomi's new ad for the company's upcoming Xiaomi 14 Civi smartphone.

The short ad, tagged #CinematicVision (Civi for short), is an obvious riff on Apple's tone-deaf 'Crush' ad. In the clip, a hydraulic press is shown destroying a bunch of instruments and other creative tools to create an iPad Pro, which hit the wrong note with creatives, prompting Apple to pull the ad and apologize for it....

The Scarlett Johansson deception is part of a pattern for OpenAI and Sam Altman

Maybe we should be worried that the company that’s ushering in AI’s next wave doesn’t seem entirely honest.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman asked the actress Scarlett Johansson—who famously voiced an AI assistant in the 2013 film Her—to do the voice for ChatGPT. She said no. So OpenAI concocted a voice that sounds a lot like that of the actress, and used it without telling her. Now the actress has lawyered up and OpenAI has egg on its face. (It’s since removed the Her voice from its...

Josh Allen thinks he could contribute good minutes in the NBA

The Buffalo Bills QB weighed in on the debate about NFL players playing in the NBA

Earlier this spring, a war of words was touched off following some comments from Austin Rivers, who declared that you “could take 30 players right now in the NBA and throw them in the NFL. You cannot take 30 NFL players and put them in the NBA.” That prompted a response from retired defensive lineman J.J. Watt, scoffing at the notion.

The exchange prompted us here at SB Nation to try and identify...

Michigan is training the workforce needed for the high-tech industries of tomorrow

Manufacturers of electric vehicles (EV) and semiconductors should have every reason to be optimistic. Their products are in demand, and the industries have benefitted from favorable tax breaks and billions of dollars in federal spending. But they are facing a huge problem: a dire (and worsening) shortage of skilled workers needed to keep their products rolling off the line.
